Punjab Water Department

This is the Punjab Water Department office over at 75/5 Officers Colony on Mall Road. It’s one of those older buildings in the Model Town area of Jalandhar and you can tell it’s been here for decades. The ceilings are high and there are stacks of files on almost every desk because that is just how the paperwork goes here. We spend a lot of time on the phones talking to people about their water lines or fixing things that broke out in the street. It gets pretty busy in the mornings when the field crews come in to get their assignments before heading out. There is always a bit of a wait if you come in on a Monday morning because that is when everyone seems to have a problem with their pipes. The fans on the ceiling just spin all day and we have a small kettle in the corner for making tea during the breaks. It isn't a fancy place with new furniture, mostly just old wooden desks and chairs that have been moved around a hundred times. Outside, Mall Road is usually packed with cars and people, but inside the colony it stays a bit quieter. We just try to keep the water moving and handle the complaints as they land on the desk. It’s a lot of mundane work but somebody has to keep track of the meters and the mains.
