Manmeet Kaur Architect

You can find us over at 209-R in Model Town. It’s a pretty decent spot to have an office because it’s not as chaotic as the main market areas but there is still plenty going on. Manmeet Kaur started this because she wanted a place where she could focus on designing buildings without too many distractions. The office is basically just a few rooms filled with desks, computers, and a lot of half-finished sketches. We have some plants in the corner that we forget to water sometimes, and the bookshelves are overflowing with old architecture magazines and building codes. It’s a practical space. We spend a lot of time on the phone with contractors or trying to get the printer to work right. The light in the afternoon is quite good for looking at color samples, though we mostly stick to the basics. People in Model Town know where we are, so they often drop by just to ask a quick question about a wall or a roof. We don't do any big presentations with fancy screens. We just show people what we’ve drawn on the paper or the monitor and talk it through. It’s a quiet life most days, just clicking away at the mouse and drinking coffee. We like the routine of coming in, opening the shutters, and seeing what the day brings in terms of new projects or problems to solve on a construction site.
