About Deepika Ribbons – Fashion & Trends in Jalandhar
If you walk down from the railway station in Krishan Nagar, you’ll find us at Ef440/1. It’s a narrow lane and it can get pretty crowded when the trains arrive and people start pouring out. We started Deepika Ribbons because there was a need for different kinds of trim and ribbon around here. It’s a family-run sort of thing. The space isn't huge, but we’ve managed to fit all the looms and spooling machines inside. You can hear the clicking of the machines from the street. We make all kinds of ribbons, different colors and widths. Sometimes the dye doesn't match perfectly, so we have to redo the whole batch. That's just part of the frustration of small-scale manufacturing. My brother handles the accounts and I look after the production. We don't have a marketing team. Most of our customers are local tailors or small shops nearby. They just walk in and ask for what they need. We keep a lot of stock on the shelves, though it's hard to keep it organized with so much coming in and going out every week. The dust from the station is a bit of a nuisance for the fabrics, so we keep everything covered in plastic sheets. It's a busy little spot and we are usually here from early morning until late evening. We don't do anything too complicated, just basic ribbons for clothes and gift wrapping. It keeps the bills paid and us busy. It is just a normal local business.
