About Deepak Furniture House – Furniture in Jalandhar
This shop is actually run out of House No. 78 here in Phagwara. It’s called Deepak Furniture House, but it feels more like a workshop that just happened to grow. There is sawdust everywhere, no matter how much we sweep it up at the end of the day. You can hear the saws running from the street. We make things like chairs and tables, mostly for the families living nearby. We don't have a big catalog or a website. People just walk in and tell us what they need, or they point at something we already finished. My father started working with wood, and I just kept it going. It’s hard work on the back and the hands, but it’s what we know. The wood sits out in the yard to dry, and we hope it doesn't rain too much. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the noise, but then they come over when they need a bed frame fixed. We have a few tools that are really old but still work better than the new ones you buy now. It’s not a polished place. There are scrap pieces of wood in the corners and pencils stuck behind everyone's ears. We just take one order at a time and try to get it done before the sun goes down. That’s how we’ve always done it here in our little part of town.
