Our factory is located out on Kapurthala Road in the Basti Bawa Khel area. Tirupati Footwears Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from this site for a good while. The building isn’t much to look at from the outside, just a plain structure along a busy road. Inside, there is always the smell of glue and rubber hanging in the air. We have rows of machines and benches where the workers sit to put the shoes together. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but everyone has their part to play. Basti Bawa Khel can get quite dusty, especially when the big trucks rumble past on Kapurthala Road. We have a small office section where the phone rings more than it should. The windows are high up, so we don't see much of the street, just the tops of the trees and the sky. We keep the finished footwear in large cardboard boxes stacked near the loading dock. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to wait a bit, which gives everyone a chance to step outside for some air. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. We don't spend money on shiny signs or big advertisements. We just focus on making sure the boxes are packed correctly and the orders are ready on time. It’s a long day from start to finish, but that’s just how the footwear business works for us. It keeps everyone busy.
