Kajal Handa Architect

I run my architectural practice out of 107 Handev Nagar, which is right off Kapurthala Road. It’s a busy road, but the office inside the colony is a bit more peaceful. I’ve been working from this spot for a good while. The space is mostly filled with my drawing board, a computer, and stacks of reference books. It’s not a corporate office with a receptionist. It is just a place where the actual work happens. Most of the day is spent drawing up plans for houses or checking on construction progress nearby. Being on Kapurthala Road means I’m close to a lot of the sites I need to visit. I spend a lot of time in my car or on a scooter going between the office and different locations. The office itself is quite plain. I have some old blueprints pinned to the walls and a few physical models sitting on the shelves gathering dust. It is a very practical setup. I don't use a lot of fancy words to describe what I do. I just draw the lines and make sure the house won't fall down. People from the neighborhood often drop by to talk about their renovation ideas. It’s a very local way of working. I like the independence of it and the fact that I can just focus on the architecture without any big office drama.
