Janta Handloom & Textiles

Janta Handloom & Textiles is right there at Jyoti Chowk. It is one of those spots in the city that everyone passes through at some point. Being at the chowk means we see all sorts of people every single day. The traffic never really stops, and the noise of the horns is just something we have lived with for a long time. We deal with handlooms and various textiles, so our shop is filled with the smell of new fabric. We have stacks of cloth reaching almost to the ceiling in some parts of the store. It is not a fancy place with bright lights and glass displays; it is more of a traditional shop where you can come in and actually touch the materials. We spend a lot of time unfolding and folding back the cloth for people who stop by. Some days are very slow and we just sit and watch the people at Jyoti Chowk, and other days we can barely keep up with everyone coming in at once. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything like that. We just open up in the morning and stay until the evening. The local tea seller knows exactly when we want our rounds, and that's how the day goes. It is a simple life and we enjoy being part of the local scene here. We have seen the chowk change a lot over the years, but our shop stays pretty much the same.
