My office is at number 22 in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar. It’s a quiet enough area most of the time, which is good when I need to concentrate on a complicated drawing. I’ve set up shop in a space that used to be part of a residential house, so it has a bit of a lived-in feel to it. There’s a big window that looks out onto the street, and I often find myself staring out of it when I’m stuck on a design problem. The room is filled with books on construction and old project files that I really should organize one of these days. I do everything from the initial sketches to the final site inspections myself. This means I’m often out of the office, so the bell goes unanswered sometimes. I don’t have a secretary to take messages. If I’m not here, I’m probably at a site checking if the brickwork is straight. People in the neighborhood know me, and I’ve worked on a few of the houses just down the street. It’s not a big corporate operation. I just have my computer, my drafting table, and a lot of pens. I like the fact that I can walk to most of the places I need to go. Sometimes the neighbors’ kids come by to ask for a piece of paper to draw on. It’s a simple setup, and it works for the kind of projects I take on. I’ve been here for years and don't plan on moving anytime soon. I have a small fan that rattles, but it keeps me cool in the afternoons. It’s just me here, making sure the measurements are right.
