Chand & Company

Our place is over in the Industrial Area of Bikram Pura, at number 2. It isn’t the kind of neighborhood where people just go for a walk. It’s mostly trucks and warehouses around here. Chand & Company is a bit different from a regular street shop because we deal with a lot of bulk paper and supplies. The building is made of concrete and stays pretty cold in the winter. I spend most of my day sitting at a heavy metal desk near the front door. There’s always a faint smell of ink and cardboard in the air. I don't bother with fancy decorations because they would just get covered in dust from the factories nearby. We have a few long tables where we sort through the stock that comes in. My brother helps me out when we have large orders to move. We don’t have a big sign outside, just the name painted on the door. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting boxes and checking lists. The coffee we make on the little stove in the back is usually too strong, but it keeps us going. Sometimes people come in by mistake looking for a different company, and I have to give them directions. It’s a quiet life in a loud part of town. We just focus on getting the orders right and keeping the shelves filled with what the local businesses need.
