Chalimex Leather Craft

Our place is out in Village Randhawa Masandan, right near the Focal Point. It’s not in the middle of the city, which is fine by us. We spend most of our time working with leather. There is always that specific smell of tanned hides in the air here. It’s a smell you get used to after a few days. The workshop is just a plain building with enough space for our tools and the benches where we sit. We do a lot of cutting and stitching by hand. My hands are usually stained with a bit of dye by the end of the afternoon. The light coming through the windows is pretty good in the morning. We try to get the heavy work done before it gets too hot in the afternoon. Sometimes the power goes out, so we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It’s a quiet village mostly, though you can hear the machines from the nearby Focal Point during the day. We have a few regular workers who have been with us for years. They know exactly how to handle the thicker pieces of leather. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. People just come to the village and ask for us. It’s a practical way to run things. We keep our scraps in big bins to see if we can use them for smaller bits later. It saves money and we don't like to waste anything that still has some use in it.
