Our yard is out on the G. T. Road bypass, near the India Oil Corporation depot. It’s a big open space because the pipes we make and store are quite large and take up a lot of room. Being near P.O. Chogittee means we are a bit on the edge of the main city, which is better for the big trucks. It’s usually pretty dusty out here, especially when the wind picks up across the open ground. We spend most of our time outside or in the shed, checking the quality of the pipes and getting them ready for transport. The smell of the oil depot is something we’ve just gotten used to over the years. It’s a rugged kind of workplace. There’s no air conditioning in the yard, so we’re at the mercy of the seasons. When it’s hot, it’s really hot, and when it rains, we’re all wearing boots. We don’t have a fancy reception area. If someone comes by, they usually just find us near the loading crane. We’ve been supplying these pipes for a long time, and you can see them being used in projects all over the state. It’s heavy work and doesn't leave much room for anything fancy. We just focus on getting the pipes out the gate and making sure the trucks are loaded properly. It’s a simple, hardworking life out here on the bypass.
