Our operation, which we simply call Kolkata, is actually situated in a place called Sashanda. You have to go via Arei to get to us here in the Jajpur district. Rajendra Kumar Rout is the one in charge of everything at this address. It might seem a bit confusing to have a company name like Kolkata when we are firmly planted in the rural landscape of Odisha, but that’s just how it ended up. We don't have a big office building. It’s more of a functional room in a house where we handle the mail and the local business needs. The pin code here is 755027, and it’s a quiet area where everyone knows their neighbor. We don't have a team of people in suits. Most days, it’s just a couple of us sitting around a wooden table with a few ledgers and a mobile phone that rings more than it should. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the ceiling fan makes a bit of a clicking noise, but it works well enough for us. We spend a lot of time talking to the farmers and laborers who live nearby. We don't have a website or any of those modern things. We just do our work by hand and through word of mouth. It’s an honest way to make a living in Jajpur. We aren't trying to impress anyone from the big city. We just want to be a reliable spot for the people in Sashanda.
