Our spot is in Marjatapur, which is part of Jajpur in Orissa. It’s a bit of a distance from the bigger cities, but that’s where the work is. At Simplex Infrastructures Limited, we’ve set up here to be close to the actual projects we’re managing. The office is pretty basic, just like the surrounding area. We don't have much in the way of decoration, mostly just maps of the local terrain and schedules pinned to the walls. The weather in Orissa can be quite unpredictable, from heavy heat to sudden storms, so we spend a lot of time making sure our sites are ready for whatever comes. We work with a lot of local people, and most of our day is spent talking to supervisors and checking on the heavy machinery. It’s a hands-on kind of place. You won't find anyone wearing a suit here; it's mostly boots and dusty trousers. We eat our lunch together and talk about the challenges of moving materials over the local roads. It’s a slow but steady process of building out the infrastructure this region needs. We don't make big promises, we just show up and do the work that’s assigned to us. It’s hard work, and the days are long, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a project move from a drawing to something real in the ground. That’s what we do here in Marjatapur.
