Out here in Balichandrapur, things move at a certain pace. Being part of Rana Sponge Limited in the Jajpur district of Orissa means we’re right in the middle of a lot of industrial activity. The air here usually smells like iron and dust, which is just part of the job. Our site is a bit of a drive from the main city, but we have everything we need right here. The workers come in from the nearby villages, and we’ve all known each other for quite some time now. We handle the sponge iron processing, and it’s a lot of manual coordination. The weather in Orissa can be really unpredictable, with the heavy rains making the grounds muddy, but the work doesn't stop. We spend our afternoons mostly checking the stock and making sure the transport trucks are loaded correctly before they head out on the long roads. It’s a plain office we have, with some old desks and a lot of registers piled up. We aren't big on fancy meetings or anything like that. We just talk over lunch or while standing near the gate.
