Our place is tucked away at Rz 16A 5 in New Delhi, and it’s a far cry from those giant luxury towers you see in the magazines. We handle the daily operations of running a hospitality business, which mostly involves a lot of cleaning, fixing things, and talking to guests. The area is always buzzing with people and traffic, so there is never a quiet moment. We have a small office where we keep the guest registers and the spare keys. Most of our staff have been around for a long time, so we all know how the pipes leak or which light switches are a bit finicky. It’s a hands-on kind of job. You might find me at the front desk one minute and helping carry luggage the next. We don't use any of those automated systems for everything; we still like to write things down and talk to people face to face. The neighborhood is a bit crowded, and finding a parking spot is usually a nightmare for everyone. We spend a lot of time making sure the rooms are ready and the tea is hot. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s what we do. The curtains in the lobby have been there for years and the carpet is a bit worn, but it feels like home to us. We just try to keep things moving and make sure everyone has a bed for the night. We often have to sort out laundry deliveries late at night too.
