We are located right in Panikoili, which is a busy area for transit. The mill stays pretty active during the harvest seasons. You can smell the grain in the air as soon as you get close to the gate. It's a lot of noise from the hullers and the dryers going at once. We spend a lot of our time checking the bags and making sure the moisture levels are right. It's not a clean job; there’s always a bit of dust from the husks floating around. We have a small office where we keep the records, but mostly we are out on the floor or near the loading docks. Trucks come in and out all day long, especially when the weather is clear. We’ve seen many seasons come and go here. Some years the rain is too much, and other years it’s too dry, which changes how much work we have. We just try to keep the machinery running smooth. It’s a family-run feel even though we grew a bit over the years. We don't do much advertising; people around Panikoili just know where we are. It’s a basic operation, focusing on the rice and getting it out to the markets. It’s honest work that keeps us on our feet from early morning until the sun goes down. Most days we are too tired to do much else, but it is good to see the bags stacked up ready to go.
