Our office in Jaisalmer is a place called Leela Nikunj. It’s situated right behind Bhatia Bagichi, which most people around here can point you toward. Working in Rajasthan, especially in a place like Jaisalmer, means you are always dealing with the sand. It gets everywhere, even inside the office if the wind picks up. We are Suzlon Energy Ltd, and this town is basically the hub for wind energy in the desert. You see the turbines all over the horizon when you drive out of town. The office itself feels more like a house than a workplace, which is quite common for us. We sit around the tables and discuss the maintenance schedules or the latest weather reports. It can get incredibly hot, so we rely on the fans and keep the curtains drawn during the middle of the day. There is something nice about being behind the Bagichi, away from the main tourist streets where the fort is. It’s a bit more peaceful. We have a small crew here, and we’ve all been working together for a long time. We know which parts of the desert are tricky to drive through and which sites need the most attention. It’s not a glamorous life, but we are used to the rhythm of the desert and the way the wind behaves out here. It is just a regular day for us.
