Little Heart School

Our school is at Prem Niwas in Jaisalmer, and it’s a solid stone building that handles the heat pretty well. If you live around here, you know how the wind blows the sand everywhere, so we are always sweeping the floors. It’s a constant battle against the desert dust. We have a small group of teachers who have been here for a long time. The classrooms aren't very big, but we fit the desks in as best as we can. We have a small courtyard where the kids gather in the morning before it gets too hot to stay outside. There isn't much shade, so we move inside pretty quickly once the sun is up. We have some old maps on the walls and a few cupboards that have been there since the school first opened. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for when the kids are on their break. Sometimes we see tourists wandering by looking for the fort, and we have to tell them they’ve gone a bit too far into the residential streets. We don't have a big budget for fancy things, so we just make do with what we have. Most of the families around here know us, and we see them at the market in the evenings. It’s just a small school in a dusty town, doing its bit every day without any big drama or fuss.
