Our office is right near the Rajat Path Chouraha in Mansarovar. If you know this part of Jaipur you know how much it has changed lately. We spend a lot of time sitting on the plastic chairs outside the office just watching the traffic and talking to people. Real estate is mostly about knowing who is selling what and who has some extra cash to buy a plot. We have maps pinned to the walls that are starting to curl at the edges. My partner and I drink a lot of tea while we wait for the phone to ring. We don't wear suits or use big words. We just tell people which colonies have good water and where the roads are going to be paved next. Sometimes we drive people around in a dusty old car to show them houses. We know the shortcuts to avoid the main Chouraha when it gets jammed up. The office is small and gets a bit hot in the afternoon because the sun hits the front window directly. We have a drawer full of old keys and property papers that we keep locked up tight. People stop by just to chat about the market or to ask if we heard any news about the new metro line. It's a lot of talking and a lot of waiting. We've been at 8/372 for a while and everyone around here knows we are the ones to ask about local spots.
