Working at B-58 in the Kukar Kheda Anaj Mandi is always an adventure. If you know Road No. 9 in Viswakarma, you know how hectic it gets around here during the harvest season. As brokers, our days start very early, usually before the sun is fully up, as the farmers and traders begin arriving at the mandi. There is a lot of shouting, checking grain samples, and negotiating prices right there on the dusty floor. Our office is tucked away in the middle of all this action, and it is not a place for someone who likes peace and quiet. We spend most of our time looking at bags of wheat, barley, and other grains. We have to be sharp because things move fast in the market and you can miss a good deal in a minute. We do not really have a polished way of speaking; we just say what needs to be said to get the work done. It is honest work that involves a lot of walking around and talking to many different people. Some days the market is slow, and other days we barely have time to sit down for a glass of tea. We have been part of this mandi for a long time and understand how the cycles of the crops work. We are not here to make big promises, just to act as the middleman and keep the grain moving from one hand to another. It is a noisy and very real way to make a living.
