We are tucked away at 3767, 4th Crossing, on Kgb Ka Rasta in Johari Bazar. Finding the 4th crossing can be a little tricky if you aren't familiar with the layout of these streets. Spectrum Gems is a small operation, mostly just us working with the stones and meeting with people who come by. The light in the shop is important, so we have these bright lamps set up over the worktables. It’s a lot of sitting and looking through magnifying glasses. The street outside is part of the old Johari Bazar, so it’s never quiet. You hear the bells from the rickshaws and people haggling over prices all day long. Our shop isn't very large, just enough room for the display cases and a couple of chairs for visitors. We spend our hours sorting through different batches and checking the quality of what comes in. It’s quiet work inside the shop, which is a nice contrast to the chaos just outside the door on Kgb Ka Rasta. We’ve been at this location for quite a while, and the walls are covered with old calendars and bits of paper with notes scribbled on them. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people walking in or calling us up. It’s a simple way to run a business. We show up, look at the gems, and talk to the neighbors. That’s a normal day for us.
