At Siri Maharaja Granites (P) Ltd., the air is usually thick with the smell of wet stone and the sound of heavy saws cutting through slabs. We are located at E-315/A in the V.K.I. Area, which is always a bit chaotic with trucks trying to navigate the narrow roads of R.N. 16. The yard is filled with big pieces of granite that have been brought in, and we spend our days moving them around with the crane. It’s a messy job, honestly. Your boots are almost always covered in a layer of fine grey mud from the water we use to keep the blades cool. The sun hits the stone slabs in the afternoon and reflects quite a bit of heat, making the warehouse feel like an oven sometimes. We don't have a big reception area or anything like that; usually, someone just walks out from the back to see what’s needed. The workers have been here a long time and they know exactly how to handle the heavy stuff without making a fuss. We just focus on the stone. There’s a lot of noise from the neighboring units too, so you have to shout a bit to be heard over the machinery. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living, dealing with something as solid and predictable as granite. We just open up the gates, get to work, and close up when the day is finished.
