Shilpankan

Our office, Shilpankan, is tucked away in the middle of Chandpole Bazar at Jailal Munshi Ka Rasta 667. It’s a very old part of the city, so the lanes are narrow and it’s always crowded with shoppers and rickshaws. We’ve been in this specific spot for a long time, and the building itself has a lot of character, even if the stairs are steep and the walls could use paint. Inside, it’s a working office through and through. Tables are piled high with drawings and folders from projects we finished years ago. We don't really have a fancy waiting area for people to sit in. Usually, if a client comes in, we just pull up a stool and talk right there among the piles of files. It’s noisy outside, but we’ve learned to tune out the honking and the shouting from the market. We do our work mostly during the daylight hours because the lighting in these old buildings isn't always great. We aren't trying to be some big corporate entity; we are just local people working in the heart of the bazar. It’s a bit messy and sometimes it gets quite hot in the afternoons, but this is where we belong. Being at 667 has been our base for as long as I can remember, and we just keep at it every day. It's a busy life, but we wouldn't have it any other way in this part of town.
