Salim'S Paper

Salim’S Paper is located on Gramodyog Road in Sanganer. This area is famous for paper and printing, so we fit right in. Our shop is simple. We have the vats and the drying racks where the paper sits. You can smell the pulp and the dyes when you walk in. It is a very hands-on process. We don't use big automated machines. Most of it is done by hand, pulling the sheets out of the water. It’s messy work. Our clothes usually have splashes of color on them by the end of the day. Sanganer has a specific feel to it, and we are right in the middle of it. We’ve been at this spot for many years. The building is just a basic structure with plenty of space for the paper to dry in the sun. When it rains, we have to hurry to bring everything inside. We sell to artists and people looking for something different than the plain paper you get at the store. We don't have a fancy catalog. We just show people what we have on the shelves. Sometimes we experiment with new fibers or flowers in the paper. Some batches turn out better than others. It is just me and a few workers who have been with us forever. We enjoy the work. It’s a quiet life, mostly, except for the sounds of the road outside.
