You’ll find us at H-236 in the RIICO Industrial Area in Mansarovar. This part of Jaipur is always loud with the sound of metal being worked. Our unit is no different. There’s usually sparks flying somewhere and the constant hum of the grinding machines. It’s a tough environment, especially when it’s 45 degrees outside and the metal is hot to the touch. We wear our old clothes because they’re just going to get dirty and burnt anyway. The space is filled with sheets of metal and finished parts waiting for the next step. We have a small desk in the corner for the bills and the phone, but nobody sits there for very long. Most of the time we’re out on the floor. We don't have a big corporate structure. It’s just the owner and a handful of workers who have been here for years. We know each other’s families and we help each other out. Sometimes the machinery breaks down and we have to spend the whole day fixing it ourselves. It’s not a clean job, and your hands are always stained with grease or metal dust. But we take pride in the fact that we can make things from scratch. We don't talk much while we work because of the noise. We just get on with it and try to finish the batch before the day is over. It’s honest work.
