Sw Gems

Down in Ramganj Bazar, you’ll find Sw Gems. Our address is 1010 Mehron Ka Rasta, right by the Nili Haveli and Phoota Khurra. It’s a very old part of the city. The streets are narrow and you can smell the food from the nearby stalls all day. We work out of a small space that’s been in the family for a bit. There are lots of little drawers filled with different stones. We spend most of the day looking through magnifying glasses or talking to other traders in the lane. It’s a tight-knit community here. Everyone knows everyone else. The building itself is quite old with thick walls. It stays a bit cooler inside even when it’s hot outside. We don’t have big display windows like the shops in the malls. Most of our business is done over a cup of tea on the floor cushions. It’s a slow process, looking at gems and deciding what’s what. Sometimes the light in the lane isn't good enough to see the colors right, so we have to move near the door. It’s dusty and loud outside with the bikes and the shoppers. We don’t bother with much advertising. People find us because they’ve been told where we are. It’s a humble spot but we’ve got a lot of history here in the bazar. When the markets start to wind down for the day, we pack up our stones and head home through the narrow lanes to get some rest.
