Pushkar Kirana Store

We are located in Jayanti Market over in the Hanuman Colony area of Kachi Basti. It’s a pretty busy spot, and my brother and I have been running Pushkar Kirana Store here for a while now. We mostly stock the basics that everyone needs for their kitchen, like different kinds of flour, rice, and pulses. We also keep those big tins of oil and bags of sugar. In the mornings, it gets really hectic because people are coming in for their milk and bread before heading off to work. The shop isn't very big, so things tend to get stacked up high against the walls. We have these old wooden shelves that have seen better days, but they do the job. Sometimes the delivery trucks can't get all the way into the lane because it’s a bit narrow, so we have to carry the sacks ourselves from the main road. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. We know most of the people living around here, and they just come in to chat even if they don't need much. Dealing with the wholesalers is probably the hardest part since the prices of dal and oil change almost every week. We just try to keep enough stock so we don't run out when someone needs something important for dinner. It’s a simple life running a grocery store, but it keeps us on our feet all day long until we close up late at night.
