Pragya & Company

Pragya & Company is located right in the middle of the Anaj Mandi in Chandpole Bazar. This is the place where all the grain comes in, so the air is often filled with the smell of wheat, rice, and pulses. It is a very active environment. We have large sacks of grain stacked up against the walls of our shop. The floor is usually covered in a bit of chaff and dust from the bags. We spend our day weighing things out and talking to the farmers and buyers who come through the mandi. Our scales are old but they work perfectly fine. We sit on cushions on the floor or on low stools while we talk about the market prices. It is a traditional way of doing business. The bazar is very crowded, and there are always porters carrying heavy loads on their backs past our door. We keep a ledger to record every sale and purchase. It is a lot of manual work, moving bags around and making sure the quality of the grain is good. We don't have air conditioning, just the natural breeze that comes through the open front. We have been part of this market for a long time and know the cycles of the harvest well. It is a dusty, busy, and honest way to spend the day. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish up the books when it is a busy season.
