You can find us over at 48, Bandhu Nagar, which is right across from the roadways depot on Sikar Road here in Jaipur. Being a government office for the public health engineering department, things stay pretty steady and sometimes a bit slow with the paperwork. We spend a lot of our time looking at maps of water lines and checking reports from the field. The traffic outside on Sikar Road is always loud, especially with the buses coming and going from the depot. Inside, the fans are usually humming away to keep the Jaipur heat from getting too bad. We have piles of registers on the desks and old metal cabinets full of files that go back years. It’s a practical space. We aren't here to look flashy; we are here to handle the water infrastructure for this part of Rajasthan. Often, engineers are coming in with muddy boots after being out at a site, and they grab a glass of water before sitting down to write their reports. It is just the daily life of a public works office. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the upcoming projects or which pipes need fixing next. It’s not a high-tech environment, just a lot of people doing their jobs in a regular brick building. Sometimes we stay late when there is a big project deadline or a water emergency in the city.
