Down on Delhi Road at Sp 38 A in the Kukas Riico Industrial Area, you’ll find us. It’s a bit of a drive out from the main city, and the landscape is pretty industrial with a lot of dust and wide roads. Inside the gates, it’s a whole different world though. You see people carrying rolls of fabric or working on mannequins in the hallways. Pearl Academy has been here for a bit, and it’s a big building with lots of windows that let in the Rajasthani sun. The rooms are full of sewing machines, cutting tables, and sketches pinned to the walls. It’s never really quiet here; there’s always the hum of machines or students talking about their projects. We spend our days making sure the equipment is working and that there’s enough space for everyone to work. The canteen is the main spot where everyone hangs out during breaks to complain about deadlines or the heat. It’s a bit of a commute for most of us, so we tend to arrive early and leave late. The surrounding area is mostly factories, so we are a bit of an oddity with all the fashion stuff going on. It’s not a fancy office environment; it’s more like a giant workshop where things are always being made and unmade. It’s a bit messy at times with thread and scraps on the floor, but that’s just how the work goes.
