Oswal Optical Industries

Down in the Bindayka Industrial Area, things are a bit more spread out and quiet than the city center. Our unit at G-1/46 is where we handle all the Oswal Optical Industries work. Making lenses and frames involves a lot of tiny parts and careful handling. It’s a bit different from the heavy manufacturing and metalwork that our neighbors do. We have to try and keep the dust away as much as possible, which is a bit of a losing battle in an industrial zone like this. The workers here have very steady hands and a lot of patience. We spend most of our time looking through magnifying glasses and adjusting small components. It’s quiet work compared to the other factories on the street. We’ve been out here for several years now. The commute to Bindayka can be quite long and tiring depending on where you are living in Jaipur. We usually start our day pretty early to beat the worst of the afternoon heat. The office part of our building is very basic, just some metal desks and old filing cabinets. We don't have a storefront for retail customers; it’s more about the production and wholesale side of things. We ship out boxes of optical goods to different distributors across the region. Sometimes we have issues with getting the raw materials on time, which slows everything down. We just deal with those problems as they come up. It’s not a fancy or high-tech job for us.
