Oriental Gem Palace

If you are walking down Hawa Mahal Sadak, you will see us right opposite the Hawa Mahal itself. It is a very busy part of the city with all the tourists and the locals moving through the area. At Oriental Gem Palace, we spend our days sitting at our wooden counters looking at very small stones under bright lights. The street outside is always full of noise and people taking pictures of the palace walls, but inside it stays a little quieter. We have been here for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit, though the palace across the road looks the same as always. We don't really go in for fancy uniforms or high-pressure sales talk. Usually, there is a pot of tea sitting in the back and someone reading the newspaper when things are slow. The dust from the road tends to blow in whenever someone opens the door, so we are constantly wiping down the glass cases to keep them clear. We have a few old safes where we keep the more interesting gems tucked away. Some days are packed with visitors from all over the world, and other days we just sit and watch the traffic go by on Hawa Mahal Sadak. It is a steady way to spend the day, and we like being right in the middle of all that history. We just take things as they come and don't worry about being too flashy.
