Nagota Gems

If you head down to Johari Bazar and find Tikki-Walon Ka Chowk, you’ll see the Emerald Tower. We are located there on the fourth floor at 407. It’s right on K.G.B. Ka Rasta, which is a place that never really seems to sleep. The area is famous for gems, so it makes sense that we are here. Our space is usually filled with the sound of people talking and the clicking of stones being moved around. We’ve been at this location for a good while. The office isn't huge, but we make it work with what we have. There are piles of envelopes and small boxes everywhere. We spend hours examining different gems and sorting them out. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing. Sometimes the dust from the street gets in, but we just wipe down the tables and keep going. We know most of the other shopkeepers around the Chowk. It’s a tight-knit place despite how many people pass through every day. We don’t really bother with fancy decorations or anything. The focus is always on the stones we have in front of us. Some days are slower than others, which gives us time to catch up on the books. It’s just the way the gem trade goes in this part of the city. We’re just regular people doing a specialized job in a very old part of town. The stairs can be a workout, but it keeps us moving and awake during the long shifts.
