Modern Battery

Running a battery shop on Sansar Chandra Road is a lot of heavy lifting. We are at 217, right in Mukundgarh House. It's very close to the City Centre so the road is always packed with cars and rickshaws. You can smell the lead and acid sometimes when we are working on the chargers. Modern Battery has been here for a bit. We have all kinds of batteries lined up on the racks, from small ones for bikes to the big heavy ones used for home inverters. The floors are always a bit scuffed up because of the crates being dragged around. It gets really busy when the power starts cutting out in the summer. Everyone comes in at once wanting their backup systems checked. We spend a lot of time testing voltages and cleaning terminals. It’s dirty work and our hands are usually black by the end of the day. The shop isn't very large so it feels a bit cramped when we have five or six people standing inside. Sansar Chandra Road is a tough place to park, so people often just double-park for a minute to drop off an old battery. We just keep doing what we do. There’s a lot of noise from the main road outside, but you get used to it after a few years. We just try to keep the shelves full so nobody leaves disappointed when their car won't start for work.
