Our shop, Kesarlal Chandalal Jain & Co, is located at number 5 in Chandpole Bazar. If you know this part of the city, you know how crowded and lively it gets. We mostly deal with traditional items and supplies that people in this area have used for generations. It is a bit dark inside because the shop is deep, but that keeps it cool in the summer. We have heavy wooden counters and shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. Usually, there are sacks or boxes stacked in the corners. It is not like the new malls you see popping up. Everything here is done in the old way. We talk to the customers, write down accounts in registers, and keep things simple. Chandpole Bazar is always noisy with rickshaws and people walking by, so there is never a quiet moment. We start early to avoid the worst of the heat and the midday rush. Most of our regular visitors are families who have been coming to us for decades. We don't do any big advertising or anything. We just open the shutters, sweep the floor, and wait for the day to start. It is a steady life here in the heart of the old market. We just focus on getting through the daily list of chores and orders.
