Our base camp is located at KM-173 on the Agra Road near Dausa. Specifically, we are in the Bhandarej area. Being out here in Rajasthan means dealing with a lot of heat and sand. The camp is where we all stay and work on the highway projects. It’s not like an office in the city. We have containers and temporary structures set up. It’s very practical. We wake up early before the sun gets too hot to start the heavy machinery. Most of the time we are just monitoring the road progress or checking the quality of the asphalt. C.K. Dixit is one of the names you'll hear around here often. It’s a quiet life out on the road except for the sound of the passing trucks. We eat our meals together at the camp mess. There isn't much to do in the evenings so we just talk about work or watch the horizon. The dust gets into everything, your clothes, your hair, even the files. We don't mind it much anymore. We are here to get the infrastructure built across this stretch of the country. It’s a long process and requires a lot of patience. We aren't doing anything fancy, just moving dirt and laying stones. It’s a simple, hard-working atmosphere where we focus on the task right in front of us. We try to finish up before the light fades away entirely.
