This is the office of the Executive Engineer for the Irrigation Department here in Baran. M.M. Gupta and the rest of the team work out of this building on Hospital Road. Since we are part of the irrigation department, we spend a lot of time thinking about water and the local fields in this part of Rajasthan. The office is right on the road, so it’s easy for people to find us. It’s an older government building that has seen many seasons. We have maps of the local canals and water sources on the walls. The desks are covered in blueprints and technical reports. It’s a practical environment. Hospital Road is usually busy, so there is always some noise from the street. We deal with farmers and contractors mostly. They come in to talk about water levels or project timelines. We don't have any fancy carpets or modern decor. It’s just a place of work. The pincode is for the Baran area. We keep a regular schedule, opening up in the morning and staying until the tasks for the day are finished. It’s honest work and we just focus on the irrigation needs of the district. It isn't a place for anything other than getting the job done. Sometimes the files get a bit dusty and the tea is cold, but the work is important for the local crops. We just take it one day at a time here on Hospital Road. There’s always another report to write or a canal to check on.
