R.R. Sheikh Gems

Our place, R.R. Sheikh Gems, is located at 1100 Hiranwalon Ka Mohalla. It’s right in the Luharon Ka Khurra area near Ghat Gate and not far from the Gulzar Masjid. It’s a very traditional part of the city and we’ve been here for a long time. The streets are narrow and always full of people, which gives the area a lot of life. We spend our days looking at stones and gems through loupes. It’s quiet, detailed work that requires a lot of patience. Sometimes we spend hours just sorting through a small batch to find the right pieces. The mohalla is where we grew up, so everyone knows us and we know everyone else. It’s not like a modern jewelry store you might see in a mall. Our shop is small and filled with the tools of the trade. We have old wooden benches and light that comes in through the small windows. People stop by just to say hello or to ask about a specific stone they are looking for. We don’t do much in the way of advertising. Word just gets around the neighborhood. It’s a slow pace of life in some ways, but the work itself is very precise. We take pride in knowing our stones well. Being near the Gulzar Masjid means we hear the call to prayer throughout the day, which is just part of the rhythm of working here.
