Dalip Singh Satnam Singh

Our shop, Dalip Singh Satnam Singh, is located right at Shop No 8 near the Vivek Vihar More in Jagatpura. We are close to the Malviya Nagar area, so there’s always people moving around outside. It’s a spot we’ve called home for many years now. The shop isn't very large, so we have to stack things high up on the shelves to make everything fit. It smells like old wood and whatever we happen to be working on that day. My partner and I start the day by opening the heavy shutters and greeting the other shopkeepers nearby. We’ve seen the roads get paved and the buildings go up around us over the decades. The intersection at the More is always a bit of a mess with traffic, but it brings people right to our door. We don't have a website or anything like that, people just know us by word of mouth or by seeing the sign when they drive past. It’s a family kind of business where we know the names of the people who come in. Sometimes we just spend the morning talking to regulars who aren't even buying anything, they’re just stopping for a chat. It can get dusty being so close to the road, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the counters. It’s a simple life but it keeps us busy from morning until the lights go out. We close up when the street lamps come on.
