Our shop, B.M. Narnoli Jewellers, is tucked into the busy lanes of Johari Bazar at number 4302, right near the Anaj Mandi. If you’ve been to Jaipur, you know how crowded it gets with tourists and shoppers everywhere. Our store is old and has that specific smell of metal and old wood that you only find in traditional markets. We’ve been here for generations. My grandfather sat on the same floor cushions where we sit today. We handle mostly gold and silver, and sometimes precious stones that come in from local cutters. The shop is quite small, so we have to keep all our stock in heavy iron safes and small wooden drawers that line the walls up to the ceiling. We don’t have a big window display. Instead, we show our pieces on a velvet cloth spread out on the floor or a low table. It’s a very personal way of doing things. Customers often sit with us for an hour, drinking tea and talking about their families while looking at different designs. Sometimes the lights flicker when the market's grid gets overloaded, but we have a few torches ready. It’s a messy, loud, and wonderful place to work. We aren't interested in being a big chain. We just like being part of the history of Johari Bazar and taking care of the customers whose families have bought from us for fifty years.
