Bilkis Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals is tucked away at 174-P, near Dhanna Das Ki Bagichi in Adarsh Nagar. It’s a fairly quiet spot for a business, which is nice when you’re trying to keep track of a lot of different bottles and boxes in the storage area. We’ve got a lot of shelves packed with all sorts of supplies that we organize as best as we can. The building itself has been around for a while, and you can tell by the way the doors creak sometimes when the wind blows. Working with chemicals and medicines means we have to be careful with how we store things, so a lot of our time is spent just reorganizing and checking labels. It’s not the most exciting job in the world, but it’s what we do to get by. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so we see a lot of the same faces walking by the window every day. When the weather is good, you can smell the trees from the Bagichi nearby, which makes the afternoon slump a bit easier to handle. We get deliveries at odd hours sometimes, and trying to fit a big truck down the lane in Adarsh Nagar can be a real headache for everyone involved. Most of the time it’s just one or two of us here, handling the phone calls and making sure the paperwork is in order. We don't have a big corporate setup.
