Bhawani Auto Battery is situated on Sikar Road, right by the Dhahar Balaji Bus Stand. Being near a bus stand means there is never any peace and quiet. There are always buses idling and horns blaring. My clothes usually have some black grease or battery acid marks on them by the end of the day. We handle all kinds of batteries for cars and trucks. The floor is made of rough stone and there are heavy lead batteries lined up in rows. It’s heavy work, lifting them and putting them on the charging racks. The air smells like chemicals and hot metal. I have a small area in the back where I sit and drink my water when it gets too hot. People come in when their vehicles won't start, usually looking a bit stressed out. I check the terminals and see if the battery can be saved or if it needs to be replaced. It’s a very practical job. I don't have time for fancy talk or decorations. The walls are just plain brick with a few calendars hanging up. My tools are old but they get the job done. I’ve been working at this spot for a long time and I know the bus drivers who stop here every morning. It's a gritty kind of life, but it's what I know. We stay open late because you never know when someone’s battery will die on the road.
