Battery Helpline is a small shop located at S 16 Mansarovar Shipra Path. We spend most of our time surrounded by rows of heavy black batteries and the smell of acid and lead. It is a simple place where the main tools are wrenches and testing meters. People usually show up here when they are having a bad day because their car or their home backup system has quit on them. The shop is on Shipra Path, which stays fairly busy throughout the day with people heading to work or running errands. We have a small workbench in the back where we test the cells and try to see if they can be charged back up or if they are just dead. The floor has a few stains from years of moving batteries around. We keep a few chairs for customers to sit on while we check their equipment, but most people just stand around and talk while we work. It gets pretty hot in here during the afternoons, so we usually have a fan blowing near the door. We aren't doing anything complicated, just checking connections and making sure the power is flowing right. Sometimes we have to head out to help someone whose car won't start in a parking lot nearby. It is a lot of heavy lifting and getting our hands dirty, but that is the nature of the work. We stay until the last job is finished.
