You will find Batra Handicrafts at Shop No. 17-A in Kamala Nehru Market West. We are right by Azmeri Gate, which is a very busy part of the city. The shop is small, but it’s packed from floor to ceiling with all the things we make. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are inside at the same time. We spend most of our day sitting on small stools or standing by the counter. The market outside is always full of noise—cars honking, people shouting, and the general sound of commerce. We like being in the middle of it. It’s a very different feeling from working in a quiet office. We don't have a marketing department or any fancy brochures to give out. If you want to see what we do, you just have to come in and look at the shelves for yourself. Some of the items have been sitting there for a while, while others go out the door as soon as they are finished. We get a lot of dust from the street because we keep the front open, so we are always wiping things down. It’s a simple life, running a shop in Kamala Nehru Market. We know the other shopkeepers and we often share a meal or a story during the slower hours in the afternoon. It’s just how things are at 17-A.
