If you go down to Bagru Namdev Colony near the Balaji Mandir, you’ll find us at Anaprinta Textiles. Being so close to the temple means we hear the bells and the chanting throughout the day. It’s a nice background to the work we do. Our place in Lal Kothi is always smelling of dyes and wet cloth. It’s a messy business, printing on fabric. Your hands end up stained blue or red by the time lunch rolls around. We’ve been in this part of Jaipur for a long time. The floors are usually a bit damp from the washing process. We have long tables where the fabric gets laid out. It’s hard on the back, bending over those tables for hours. Sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate and the fabric takes forever to dry. We just have to wait it out. There’s no point in rushing things when it comes to textiles. The local kids sometimes run through the yard while we’re working. It’s a community feel here. We know the people at the tea stall around the corner pretty well. Most of us have been doing this for years, so it’s second nature. The patterns are familiar, but every batch of dye behaves a bit differently. It’s a bit of a gamble every time we start a new run. We just do our best with what we have and keep the production moving as steady as we can.
