Just down the way from the other stone yards on Road No. 9-J, you’ll find our spot at F-282. This is the V.K.I. Area, and it’s about as industrial as it gets. Our daily life at Agarwal Stones Internatinal involves a lot of outdoor work and managing the stock that comes through the gate. There isn't much shade out here, so the office is the only place to catch a break from the Rajasthan sun. We handle a lot of international paperwork, which means we’re often on the phone at odd hours or checking emails from different time zones. The desks are usually covered in stone samples and shipping documents. It’s a bit messy, but we know where everything is. We don’t go in for big displays or marketing talk. Most of the people who come by are truck drivers or workers from nearby plots. We’ve got a small crew, and we’ve all been doing this for a long time. The gates stay open from early morning until late evening, and there’s always a layer of fine dust on everything, no matter how much we clean. It’s just the nature of the business. We focus on getting the slabs loaded safely and keeping the records straight. It’s not a quiet life, but it’s a good one if you like seeing the physical results of your day’s work.
