We set up shop at G-465-A on Road 9-A in VKIA quite some time ago. If you walk inside, you’ll mostly see metal and hear the sound of the lathe machines running. There’s always a bit of oil on the floor and our clothes usually have grease stains by noon. Turning metal is what we do, day in and day out. It’s not the cleanest job, but it’s what we know. We get all kinds of parts brought in that need fixing or smoothing out. The air smells like hot metal and cutting fluid. We don't have a fancy waiting room or anything, just a few stools and a lot of tools hanging on the walls. Most of the guys here can tell what’s wrong with a machine just by the sound it makes. We work on whatever comes through the door, from small bolts to big industrial pieces. The sun hits the front of the workshop in the afternoon, making it pretty warm, but we just keep the doors open for the breeze. It’s a lot of measuring and checking things twice to make sure they fit right. We aren't big on talking much; we mostly just focus on the work in front of us. When the machines are off, it feels strangely quiet. We usually wrap things up when the sun goes down and clean up the shavings for the next day.
