A.K. Jewellers

Over at Rajamal Ka Talab, near Chandi Ki Taksal, the streets are filled with history. A.K. Jewellers is right at number 60. It’s a small shop, like many others in this part of the city. The area is famous for jewelry, so there is always a lot of activity. Our place has these old glass counters that we spend a lot of time cleaning because of the fingerprints. The floor is simple tile, and we have a couple of small stools for people to sit on. It’s not a big showroom with lights everywhere. It’s more of a traditional setup. We spend the day looking at small pieces and talking to people who walk in. Sometimes it’s very quiet and we just sit and watch the people pass by outside. The afternoon sun hits the front of the shop and makes it quite warm, so we keep the fan on high. There’s a lot of dust from the street that finds its way in no matter how much we sweep. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows what everyone else is doing. We don’t have a big marketing plan. We just open the doors in the morning and wait to see who comes by. It’s a slow and steady kind of life here in the old market.
