Meghalaya Cements Limited (Topcem)

Our main operations for Meghalaya Cements Limited, which many people around here know as Topcem, are located in Thangskai. We are right in the Lumshnong area of the Jaintia Hills. It is a beautiful part of India, but the work we do is quite heavy and industrial. Because we are up in the hills, we deal with a lot of different weather conditions, especially during the monsoon season when the rain just doesn't seem to stop. At the site, trucks are coming and going at all hours of the day and night. We have a lot of local people working here with us, which makes the place feel like a community. This is not a clean or quiet job by any means. There is always the sound of machinery and the smell of the plant in the air. Instead of a polished front office with someone in a suit, you will mostly find us in work clothes and boots because that is what the job requires. Getting the product out and making sure the quality is okay for the people who buy it is our main focus. Although it is a tough environment, we have a good group of people who have been here for years. Knowing the hills well helps us get things done even when the weather is against us. We are just a bunch of folks working hard in the Jaintia Hills to keep the cement moving for everyone who needs it.
