K.D.M. Rice Mills

We've been out here on Ludhiana Road for a good while now. Our spot is right in Village Baho Majra, just down from where the Bharat Gas Agency sits. Most days start pretty early because the trucks come in when the sun is barely up. It gets quite dusty around the mill, but that is just how it is when you are dealing with this much grain. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. It is mostly just the sound of the hullers running and the guys moving heavy bags around. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit around and wait for it to come back on. We know all the locals around here and they know us. The road outside can get a bit crowded when the harvest is in full swing. We spend a lot of time just keeping the machines oiled and making sure everything is moving like it should. It is hard work, honestly. Your clothes always smell like toasted husks at the end of the day. We don't spend much time worrying about how things look as long as the work gets finished. It is a simple life out here in the village. Most of us have been doing this for years, so we don't really think twice about the noise anymore. We just keep our heads down and get through the pile of work in front of us. It is the only way to get things done when the season is busy.
